NewsPatrolling.com (Partnered with Niryas.com , best milk products manufacturer) : HCL, a leading global conglomerate, today announced the commencement of the 2nd HCL International Junior Squash Championship – a Silver event under the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) calendar, rated five star by the Squash Racket Federation of India (SRFI).  The event will see action-packed matches between December 11 and 15, 2017 at the Shiv Nadar University campus in Greater Noida. This Championship is HCL’s initiative to promote the game of Squash and provide a serious platform to young upcoming players in the country. The total prize purse for the championship is Rs.5,49,000 (equal prize money for Boys and girls categories).

HCL launched the first Junior Squash tournament in December, 2016 as a four-star national event. Seeing the success of the first Championship and to scale-up and continue its efforts towards promoting the game, HCL has registered this tournament under the ASF calendar and upgraded the Championship to a five-star national-level tournament for Juniors. Organised under the aegis of SRFI and the Uttar Pradesh Squash Rackets Association this event will promote the sport at a competitive level. The Squash Racket Federation of India manages the profiles and ranking of the players and has been promoting Squash in India.

The Championship will follow a knock-out format followed by play-offs among the top 8 positions in each categories. The top players will receive ranking points and these will be included in their Asian ranking as well. It will be open to both, boys and girls in separate categories and has been further sub-categorized into the Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 (Boys) categories.

Speaking about the initiative, Sundar Mahalingam, Chief Strategy Officer, HCL Corporation said, “Encouraging sports is an important part of HCL’s brand philosophy of touching lives. It is our endeavour to support those sports which have remained outside the spotlight. This Championship is HCL’s flagship event in Squash and I hope that it will provide a competitive platform to the young squash players, so that they may test their mettle against other players and improve their game.”

Cyrus Poncha, Chairman SRFI National Circuit and National Coach, Squash Rackets Federation of India said, “This is the second time we will be hosting the Junior Squash championship at the Shiv Nadar University and HCL’s support in this journey has been remarkable. This year, we hosted the National Squash championship as well at the same venue and it was an action-packed tournament. We are now looking forward to another amazing championship with the HCL International Junior Squash Championship”
