IT WAS A GRAND OPENING ON DAY ONE AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2018 WHEN INIFD PRESENTED FIVE TALENTED GEN NEXT DESIGNERS

NewsPatrolling.com Media partnered with Niryas.comThe 25th batch of 5 Gen Next designers presented by INIFD opened Day One at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018 with collections that were not only creative but also totally diverse in design and construction. Against a special set designed for the first time by the Interior Designers of INIFD, the Gen Next show was one of the most eagerly awaited of the season.

ANVITA SHARMA AND ASIT BARIK – A GENDERLESS FASHION LANGUAGE

When two design graduates come from the prestigious Istituto Marangoni, Paris with experience of working with Rick Owens, the collection has to be eye-catching. The look by Anvita Sharma and Asit Barik was replete with fluid garments that revealed flawless clean lines since the over-sized creations were genderless and ideal for all sizes and shapes, thus offering a liberating fashion feel. For their label ‘TwoPointTwo’ the pair called the collection “Gyne-Andro-Philia” that eliminated the stereotyping in fashion.  The motto of the collection was Typically Atypical. Thread work and appliqués pushed the message of Beauty in Imperfection created from fabric waste.  Careful detailing worked perfectly for the easy silhouettes that spoke a genderless language and revolved around sustainable fashion. The highlight of the collection was the wide range of fabrics that moved from cotton suiting to silk organza, while the appliqué embroidery with intricate thread handwork was perfect. The colour palette worked around white, grey, black with hints of cameo rose and misty green. Catering to both sexes, the garments could be seamlessly interchanged by men and women without any fashion pointers.  Comfy checked pleated skirts, bralets, jumpsuits, sheer covers, striped maxis, shirts with extra-long elongated sleeves, floppy tops and easy garments had a splash of artisanal craft that added to the nearly anti-fashion look.

AYUSHMAN MITRA – BOLD AND INNOVATIVE

As a communications graduate from St. Xavier’s College Ayushman Mitra was in the limelight with his painting exhibitions since 2010. His set designs for the movie NH7, as well as costumes for pop band Ganesh Talkies won him many accolades and as founder and creative director of his label ‘BOBO’ Calcutta, he was known for his innovative thoughts. The collection titled “Excessive Adaptation” brought together fabrics like cotton, muslin, denim and silk. Therefore, it was but natural that his collection for men and women revealed his bold artistic talents. Ayushman added a layer of his artwork and graphic motifs, which he sprinkled with hand embroidered sequins and threads. With clean silhouettes that highlighted the embellishments, the op-art visuals on the maxis dresses, boiler suits, tiered maxis, floppy tops and kaftans had a mix of abstract and wild imagery with vibrant striking facial studies and giant visuals of lips and eyes. The prints developed from graphics and paintings spoke of a unique sexuality of love. Loose silhouettes in white, orange, rust were the perfect canvas for the bold splashes of red, green and black abstract art.

PADMA RAJ KESHRI – WOOLLEN VISIONS

A few seasons ago, “Looms of Ladakh” the collection by Padma Raj Keshri was created as a sportswear line at the Wool Runway for Woolmark India. With a double graduate in fashion from National Institute of Fashion Technology and National Institute of Design, Padma’s Summer/Resort 2018 look was inspired by organic modernity of Ladakh. Using diverse materials like linen, Pashmina and Yak wool from the villages of Leh, the ensembles offered a unique style for the trendsetter. It was a travel worthy collection or the airport look that Padma Raj Keshri presented. Swirling capes, ponchos, pencil skirts, pinafores, midis, panelled dresses; slim trousers were topped with easy blouses as well as stylish capris and midi skirts. The woollen shawls were a perfect accessory to highlight the garments. It was an edgy women’s wear line for the jet-setting woman who wants to look great from dawn to dusk.

MOHAMMED MAZHAR – UNIQUE INSPIRATION

It was a mélange of fabrics like cotton, lawn and mulmul that came alive on the ramp from the studio of Mohammed Mazhar. A graduate of INIFD, Mohammed got his further fashion grounding as assistant designer to Priyanka Khosla and Abraham and Thakore. His label under the National Employment Scheme created a stir for him. Inspired by the “Dhobighat”, Mohammed hoped to bring the artisans who contribute to the fashion industry to the forefront. The very innovative line for women brought an interesting fashion dimension to the fabrics. Detailing was extreme with layered kurta, tiered smocks and gathered dresses with lapel jackets were given intense pin tucks. Mohammed’s self-developed ‘Bhalwa’ prints that washer men craft from ‘Marking Nuts’, was feminine yet innovative with a contemporary flair. The swirling, layered, day dresses, sari, kurta tops and skirts were great casual wear for women, while for the stronger sex the designer brought in layered short/long kurtas with Aligarh pyjamas as well as pant pyjamas.

HELENA BAJAJ LARSEN – PARISIAN BUT TRADITIONAL

The Franco-Indian-Norwegian designer Helene Bajaj Larsen showed exclusive one-of-a-kind pieces since the print was manually done. It was a collection that highlighted hand painting with acid and pigment dyes that made an impact on the ramp. Helena Bajaj Larsen, a Parisian with a fashion degree from the Parsons School of Design is a specialist in Textiles and Jewellery. The colour tones ranged from earthy autumn hues to grey for silk, wool and cotton. The clothes had a stylish mix of Indian hues with a Scandinavian silhouettes’ sense and a Parisian touch of fashion.  Zeroing in on a variety of Khadi silks that included raw, semi raw, pure, satin and organza – all sourced in India – Helena’s collection created the right result that impressed the audience. Maxis in Khadi, raw silk sheer tops with loose pants, hand painted long coats, unstructured blouses, multi-coloured hand painted cardigans, sari and translucent dresses were utterly feminine in form and shape while pleated skirts swirled down the ramp topped with layered blouses.  Sleek dresses with matching knee-length coats were simple but elegant because of the innovative prints. The interesting jewellery designed to match the garments was the perfect accessory.

The look for the show was created by Lakmé makeup expert Daniel Bauer. To celebrate new thinking, new approach and the new generation of designers, he took the Gen Next look into a new and pretty unconventional space. Black nails, black contact lenses with a touch of the Lakmé Absolute Nude Kohl Pencil, and the Mohawk hairstyle using the most unconventional of hair accessories, a plastic tie-wrap in black and white, were used to complete the look.

Hindus urge Switzerland Govt. to mandate listing of gelatine source on food, which many times is beef

NewsPatrolling.com / Niryas.com : Hindus are urging Switzerland Government and its Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) to mandate food manufacturers to mention the source of gelatine, if used in the product, on its “Ingredients” label.

When the source of gelatine is not listed and if it is beef, it is a serious non-disclosure affecting the Hindu devotees and would severely hurt their feelings when they would come to know that they were inadvertently consuming beef-laced popular food products, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed stresses.

Consumption of beef was highly conflicting to Hindu beliefs. Cow, the seat of many deities, was sacred and had long been venerated in Hinduism; Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out in a statement today.

According to Sandra Di Medio, Scientific Employee at FSVO: Switzerland regulations do not require manufacturers to declare the source of gelatin of the product label.

It would be shocking for the Swiss Hindu community to learn that some of the popular food products, which they might had been unknowingly eating for years, might contain beef as part of the gelatine while beef was not explicitly mentioned under the ingredients listed on the boxes/packages to caution them, Rajan Zed indicated.

Zed further said that it was hard to comprehend that why companies, both Swiss and international, many times were not transparent enough to mention beef explicitly under the ingredients on the box/package when, being constituent of gelatine, it was part of the product inside; so that an ordinary consumer could make right and appropriate choices.

Rajan Zed urged Swiss Confederation President and Federal Department of Home Affairs Head Alain Berset, FSVO Director General Hans Wyss and Federal Office of Public Health Director Pascal Strupler to seriously and urgently look into this issue affecting Swiss-Hindus. FSVO, whose main task was “to actively promote the health and well-being of humans”, should not shy away from its responsibility to promote the well-being of its Hindu citizens, Zed noted.

Dutch-British transnational consumer goods company Unilever, which “has been in business since the 1880s” and which claims to have “developed a clear and global approach to nutrition labeling”, in a response to Zed, stated: Gelatin “is used in some of our products to provide a lower fat, lower calorie product with a pleasing texture and consistency…We cannot guarantee if the gelatin is derived from beef or pork”.

Many products of Wrigley, said to be the largest manufacturer and marketer of chewing gum in the world, contain gelatin that is sourced from beef. Gelatin derived from beef is found in the many products of multinational Kellogg’s, which claims to be “world's leading cereal company”.

Gelatine/gelatin is procured from various animal body parts and is usually used as a gelling agent in food. It can be from cows, pigs, fish, chicken, etc.; but there are animal-free and plant-based alternatives to gelatin like seaweed extracts. Gelatine is an ingredient in some cereals, ice creams, candies, yogurts, desserts, marshmallows, aspic, trifles, dips, fruit snacks, sour cream, margarine, frosting, confections, gums, Chinese soup dumplings, puddings, nondairy creamers, cakes, cream cheese, lozenges, etc. It is also used for clarification of vinegar, juices and wine.

Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about 1.1 billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.

Path breaking Trans Oral Video Endoscopic Surgery (TOVES) comes to the rescue of 75 year old male suffering from end stage oropharyngeal cancer

  • Under the aegis of Dr. Mandeep S Malhotra, cost effective life saving surgical treatment was extended to the patient
  • Patient registered himself with the UMMED initiative to avail subsidized oral cancer treatment options

NewsPatrolling.com (Media partnered with Newzopedia.com): Mr. Naseera from Alwar, Rajasthan was a 75 year old man who was suffering from end stage oropharyngeal cancer, which was surgically removed through a path breaking surgery which involved the intricate use of endoscopic tools. Mr Naseera had registered himself with UMEEDan initiative which is focused on providing quality and affordable cancer care. It also provides subsidized treatment for Oral and Breast Cancers to the underprivileged. Through this initiative he met Dr Mandeep S Malhotra, Department of Head Neck & Breast Oncoplasty and his team, comprising of Dr Deepak Jha and Dr Yogesh Jain who were able to end his suffering by performing the first of its kind ‘Trans Oral Video Endoscopic Surgery (TOVES)’.

TOVES is an approach to treat Oropharngeal Cancers(Cancer of Tonsil and Back of Tongue; Throat) surgically which  involves usage of conventional Endoscopic (Laparoscopic), instruments which are similar to those used for performing Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, costing about 1/3rd or even less as compared to Robotic Surgery and very less mutilating as compared to open surgery which involves incising the neck and cutting through jaw bone. It involved 2 months of improvisation and efforts to make these instruments suitable for Trans oral surgery. This technique enables the surgeon to stand right at the patient's Head maintaining the close doctor patients connect. Trans Oral Video Endoscopic Surgery (TOVES) as named by Japanese,  as compared to Robotic Surgery (TORS), has the main benefit  of  bringing down the cost drastically and making  this treatment affordable  to  a large section of our society, and  also has the advantage of  maintaining the direct doctor patient connect. Surgical techniques like TOVES should be extensively evaluated, researched, improvised and applied for the larger benefit of our people as well as across the world.

On completing the surgery successfully Dr Mandeep said, “We researched and studied extensively before we conducted TOVES. Our main aim was to ensure that the patient gets the same results as what is achieved by robotic surgery. It wasn’t easy as we had to do two months of intensive preparation and improvisation to make the TOVES procedure a viable option for the patient. The benefit of doing TOVES is that there is a possibility of delivering the benefits of Transoral approach in substantially less costs for  treating oropharangeal cancers vis a vis Trans Oral Robotic Surgery(TORS). Surgical techniques like TOVES should be evaluated, researched, improvised and applied for the larger benefit of people all over the world.”

Mr. Sandeep Guduru, Facility Director at FHVK said, “When Dr Mandeep and his team approached me with this procedure, I was confident that it would be a milestone in the treatment of oral cancer. They have worked hard to conduct this challenging and innovative surgery, thus creating a treatment option which was result oriented and cost effective. I am happy to see so much passion in the doctors and the medical staff. They have revolutionised cancer treatment for those who may have previously found it unaffordable, and by doing so have gone beyond their call of duty to make the impossible possible.”

On his recovery Mr Naseera said, “I was at my wit’s end about what to do. I wasn’t able to afford conventional treatment and therefore I registered myself with UMEED. I had forgotten how to eat and smile, but it was the team of doctors at Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj who brought everything back to my life. The registry through UMEED helped me immensely as it gave me an inkling of who to approach and where to seek treatment from. I can proudly say that I am much better, and am a healthy, successful and living example of TOVES treatment. I was wholly dependent on the doctors at Fortis and they delivered their best. I trusted them and they gave me the treatment I required at a cost I could afford it at.”

Volatility index at 14 months high

NewsPatrolling.com : “Post last three day’s strong up move, the benchmark index started off today’s session slightly lower amid mixed global cues and remained range bound for the major part of the day to conclude the session on a flat note.

In index options front, we saw decent OI addition in 11100-11400 call options (except for 11200 wherein we saw some unwinding). On the other side, 11000-11100 puts continued adding fresh positions; followed by unwinding in OTM strikes 10200-10950. Maximum concentration of OI for January series is placed at 11200 call and 10500 put option.

As far as FIIs activities are concerned, we witnessed mixed position in index futures throughout January series. However, majority of the positions formed were on the short side, resulting their Index Futures ‘Long Short Ratio’ declining below 50% after quite some time. At the same time, they have been forming positive bets in other F&O space by adding good amount of long positions in stock futures and index call options along with writing in index put options. After consistent selling for last five series, stronger hands have been pouring liquidity through cash market segment in current series with a net buying of Rs. 7805 crores. Considering above data points, we would advise traders avoiding any bearish bets unless we see meaningful change in F&O data.”

Post Spinal Injury, Wheelchair Bound Laborer Plays National Level Basket Ball

A daily wage laborer Anil Kumar survived a three-storey fall with broken spine and loss of control in lower limbs(LEGS). Post-injury at the Indian Spinal Injuries Center, unfazed by the crippling limitations, he bounced back in life by participating in the Wheelchair Basketball competition at National Level.

NewsPatrolling.com (Media partnered with Niryas.com) : Anil Kumar’s world came crashing down after he suffered a serious spinal injury after he fell from third storey at work. Repairing an electric connection, the daily wage laborer, (Aged 26 years) suffered an electric shock from a live wire, lost his balance and fell down. As a result, he sustained a severe injury to his spine, crippling him from waist down.
Anil’s wife and family had lost all hope after realizing the extent of damage. Being expectant of their first child then, his wife was specially affected by the sudden misadventure faced by the family. Their search for treatment brought them to Indian Spinal Injuries Center, where Anil’s treatment was finally undertaken under Dr Gururaj Sangondimath, Consultant spine surgeon and Unit Chief, Indian Spinal Injuries Center,
“When Anil came to us, his spine was broken, and one vertebra completely pressed on to another vertebra, leading to complete loss of power in both legs and lost his control on urine and stool. He was admitted as soon as he reached ISIC, and after evaluating all parameters, a major surgery was conducted by afternoon on the same day. After the successful surgery, he stayed for rehabilitative care for 20 days when he underwent several therapies, enabling him to be gain life-skills despite being  bound on wheelchair.”, said Dr. Gururaj,
Anil’s consultation with ISIC continued for more days as an OPD patient for prolonged rehabilitative care. With the help of various therapies and strong determination, he was able to be self-dependent, by learning to do all his activities of daily living. Anil’s strong determination and mental strength did not only help him recover from the injury and face the shock, he went on to participate in Wheelchair Basketball competition at national level. Today, he follows his passion, is able to take care of himself, as well as has become a contributing father.
“I am thankful to Dr. Gururaj and his team at Indian Spinal Injuries Center, as it is because of their efforts my life has changed for the better. After the injury even getting-up was unimaginable, but due to the constant support and rehabilitative care at the hospital, today I am self-dependent and can perform most tasks all by myself. I am able to become a supportive and contributing member of my family rather than being a liability,” the patient, Anil Kumar, expressed.
Poor safety standards across industries and especially in the unorganized sector are a major concern causing severe injuries to many people all over the country. An estimated 48000 fatalities occurred in India due to negligence and unsafe working environment. With a workforce of over 1.25 billion, lapse in safety standards is a major cause for concern.
Highlighting the role of negligence as main factor causing spinal injuries, Dr. H. S. Chhabra, Medical Director & Chief of Spine Services at Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, said “Human negligence and ignored infrastructure are becoming key factors causing falls and slips which lead to severe injuries. Vehicular accidents and specially those involving two-wheelers accounts for a majority of spinal injuries. Unfortunately, shortage of quality rehabilitation services and lack of focus on re-instilling confidence among patients make reintegration of patients a major challenge in India. This is the gap which we at ISIC try to fill in not only conducting high risk surgeries successfully but also bringing back patients to active life through aggressive rehabilitation.”
For patients such as Anil, a supporting family, advanced therapies, and strong encouraging framework are major factors helping them to bounce back to life. Comprehensive rehabilitation remains the key to recovery of a spinal injury patient and there is increasing need to put greater thrust on these aspects to help patients get back to fruitful work lives.

Print all In new window 11000 at a kissing distance now: Angel Broking

NewsPatrolling.com / Newzopedia.com : “It seems that our markets are replicating last January’s performance as we can see addition of another 4% move from December (2017) close. We must accept the fact there has been no mercy for short sellers and in fact, buyers are also afraid of this ‘Fast and Furious’ move. Due to todays up move, the Nifty is now at a kissing distance from yet another huge milestone of 11000.

Today, we saw index opening with a negligible upside gap and then retraced back a bit in the initial trade. However, once again, the strong buying interest emerged tad above Friday’s low and then went on to clock yet another record high. Technically, it’s difficult to give any particular level as the market has entered an uncharted territory. Hence, the psychological level of 11000 would be seen as next junction, which is just a formality now. After this, if we have to see any particular point then we can see 11100 as a next important junction. Of late, there has been no respect to any resistance; but, since this level is projected by taking 161% price extension of the rally seen during 2008 – 10; we thought of highlighting it. On the lower side, 10881 – 10782 would be seen as key support levels.

Although, the banking index clocked 27000 today, the intraday rally was mainly propelled by four heavyweight marquee oldies, the Reliance, TCS, ONGC and L&T. Except ONGC, all other names are at record highs and have been amongst the major contributors in the success our markets have seen in last 13 months. Going ahead, we continue to remain upbeat in some of the ‘Pharmaceutical’ names like, Sun Pharma, Divis Lab and Dr Reddy and on the other hand, ‘Metal’ pack still looks vulnerable.”
