The 36-year-old woman who threw her seven-year-old daughter from the terrace of a four-storey building in south Bengaluru on Sunday appears to be mentally sound, police said, adding the woman committed the crime out of frustration.
Swathi aka Sathi Sarkar was remanded in judicial custody for 13 days on Monday.
The child died after Swathi threw her to the ground for the second time near Sri Rama Temple at Jaraganahalli in JP Nagar.
The accused was caught by the public and tied to an electric pole.
“The child used to cry to get whatever she needed as she was unable to speak. The mother became frustrated over this and killed the girl. Her husband Kanchan Sarkar also ignored her, adding to her despair,” police said.
“Swathi told us that she wanted to commit suicide and changed her dress to go elsewhere and take the extreme step. She said she did not wish to die where her daughter lay dead and was fleeing when she was caught,” they added.
