Amazon removes Lord Ganesha stockings after Hindu protest

World's largest online retailer Amazon.com withdrew stockings carrying image of Hindu deity Lord Ganesha from its website within two days after upset Hindus protested, calling it “highly inappropriate”.

Three stockings carrying images of Lord Ganesha, which were selling at Amazon.com from $9.69 to $16.30, do not show up anymore.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, who spearheaded the protest urging for immediate withdrawal of these objectionable products, in a statement in Nevada today, thanked Amazon.com for understanding the concerns of Hindu community which thought image of Lord Ganesha on such a product was highly insensitive.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, however, pointed out that a formal apology from Amazon.com President Jeffrey P. Bezos to the upset Hindu community was still due, as this was not the first time for the company to offer such products which were deemed offensive by Hindu devotees.

Rajan Zed suggested that Amazon.com and other companies should send their senior executives for training in religious and cultural sensitivity so that they had an understanding of the feelings of customers and communities when introducing new products or launching advertising campaigns.

Zed had said that Lord Ganesha was highly revered in Hinduism and was meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to cover your feet and legs or touch with your feet and legs. Inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or symbols or concepts for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the faithful.

Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.1 billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken frivolously. Symbols of any faith, larger or smaller, should not be mishandled, Rajan Zed had indicated.

Zed had stated that such trivialization of Lord Ganesha was disturbing to the Hindus world over. Hindus were for free artistic expression and speech as much as anybody else if not more. But faith was something sacred and attempts at trivializing it hurt the followers, Zed added.

Hindus have protested and contacted Amazon.com many times in the past over what they felt was trivialization of Hindu deities on various products sold on its website and had been mostly successful in persuading the company to remove those.

In Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is worshipped as god of wisdom and remover of obstacles and is invoked before the beginning of any major undertaking. There are about three million Hindus in USA.

Nifty gearing up for sub-10000 levels: Angel Broking

NewsPatrolling.com : NewsPatrolling.com : “After yesterday’s massive sell off, our markets were expected to open significantly lower. But, this wasn’t the case, the index started with a mildly negative bias after SGX Nifty recovering smartly from early morning lows. However, during the entire day, index remained under pressure and had a gradual recovery to conclude around the 10150 mark.

Today’s move was not so surprising for the traders’ fraternity; however, the kind of magnitude we saw on Tuesday was clearly missing. Practically such sluggish movement was obvious; because after yesterday’s breakdown, the trade on the short side became quite evident and generally, market does not obey obvious moves. However, we fell because of the major breakdown that we saw below the 10300mark. Now, index has precisely tested the ‘200-day SMA’ placed around 10140 and we’ve been repeatedly mentioning about this possibility since last 3 – 4 weeks. Considering the broader picture, we will not be surprised to see sub-10000 levels soon but how it pans out need to be observed closely. For the coming day, 10100 – 10033 would be seen as immediate support zone. On the higher side, 10208 followed by 10280 remains to be strong hurdles.

Markets have now reached the crucial support zone and hence, for intraday traders, it would not be wise to create aggressive shorts if index trades around the mentioned support zone during the first half. Going ahead, index is likely to trade sluggish and the real action would be seen in individual stocks. Thus, one needs to focus on such moves rather than scratching heads in the index.”

SRM University signs a MoU with Integral Coach Factory, Chennai for a Fuel Cell Based Train Prototype

SRM University, AP – Amaravati and  SRM Institute of Science and Technology have signed a MoU with Integral Coach Factory(ICF), Chennai for creating a Fuel Cell based Train Prototype. SRM is a leading University engaged in quality research and ICF is a Production Unit under Ministry of Railways engaged in production of Coaches.

Fuel cells have higher efficiency than fossil fuel engines. These also operate silently, compared to internal combustion engines. Hydrogen based Fuel cells can also eliminate pollution caused by burning fossil fuels since they do not produce carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) when they are in use.

SRM will be responsible for conceptualizing and creating the energy storage systems including Fuel Cells, Batteries, Super Capacitors, DC/DC Convertors, and Control systems while ICF will develop the equipment beyond the DC link for the switcher in the coaches. The proposed fuel cell powered train will have Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) coupled with lithium ion batteries and super capacitors.

The main prototype should be developed and in place by December 2018 and the fuel cell driven passenger train is expected to operate for public transportation by December 2019.

“Hydrogen-based PEM Fuel Cell is one of the best renewable energy sources with increasing efficiency and with zero carbon dioxide emissions. Parallel development of fuel cell powered switcher coach of 100 horsepower as locomotive will be developed along with the passenger train with two coaches. Each coach of 65 passenger capacity operating at a speed of 75 kmph”, says Dr. D. Narayana Rao, Pro VC, SRM University, AP Amaravati.
